asp.net mvc 2 - Offline websites using Google Gears or HTML5 -

I am reading about using offline gears and creating offline websites using HTML5. Regarding the ASP.Net MVC2 applcation with the SQL database backend curious about the advantages and disadvantages of two of the two. It seems that Gears supports offline databases functionality it would be the only way to go

Google, who has no knowledge of it at least for future proofing is not.

The only reason for the browsers used by the target audience is that I will use Gears ... though "use a different browser" is only a minor problem, then "install this plugin"
